John Denyer Red Eagle was born on September 21, 1948, in Bartlesville, Okla., to Edward Red Eagle Sr. and Virginia (Logan) Red Eagle. John grew up with five siblings in the Barnsdall area. He attended Barnsdall public school and then graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1967.
John believed in education. He attended Oklahoma State University and transferred to Colorado Community College Nuclear Medicine where he earned a bachelor’s degree. Later he earned another bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University. John had a very prestigious career. He worked at Hillcrest Medical Center Nuclear Medicine as the Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Cardiology of Tulsa Nuclear. John served as the Assistant Chief of the Osage Nation and then he proudly served as the Chief of the Osage Nation. John was the third generation of the Red Eagle family that served as the Chief of the Osage Nation, following in his father Edward Red Eagle Sr. and grandfather Paul Red Eagle’s footsteps. John was very extremely proud of his Osage Ancestry and culture; he loved his Osage People. Tsi Zho Zhi was his Osage name meaning Little Chief which comes from the Eagle Clan (Tsi Zho Clan). John was the Eagle Clan name giver. John was one of the last six full-blood Osages.
John was also a man of great faith in God. He trained under Pastors Billie Joe Daughtery and Oral Roberts. In 1992, he became an associate pastor at Victory Christian Center in Tulsa. He later pastored the John Red Eagle Ministries in Pawhuska. He was also a member of the Red Eagle Native American Church. John also celebrated forty-five years sober and was a member of AA.

John is survived by his daughter/niece Mary (Joe Don) Mashunkashey; two brothers Eddie (Mattie) Red Eagle Jr. and Myron Red Eagle; five nieces and nephews, Jeanna, Christy, Nicole, Jo Dawn, and Leslie; fourteen great nieces and nephews, Edward, Tiffany, Gabriele, Macy, Celena, Michaela, Rachel, Maddie, Eli Jr., Fiona, Liam, James, Cortney, and Jesse; twelve great-grandchildren, Jillian, Edward, Grady, Grant, Adalyn, Emmalyn, Graci, Olivia, Mac, Bull, TW, and Kathrine. John is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Red Eagle Sr. and Virgina Red Eagle; two brothers, Norman Bayhylle, Charles Tall Chief; sister, Carole Bayhylle; nephew, Eli Red Eagle; niece Ramona Bayhylle.
Funeral Service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Wakon Iron Chapel in Pawhuska, followed by burial at the Red Eagle Family Cemetery in Barnsdall, Okla. Arrangements have been made by Powell Funeral Service in Hominy, Okla.
